Start with safety. Then report the loss to the right carrier.

First Actions

What to do before and while reporting

Move in this order. Do only what is safe and reasonable for the type of loss you experienced.

  1. Make the situation safe

Address injuries and active hazards first. Follow instructions from emergency or qualified professionals.

  2. Limit additional damage

Take reasonable temporary measures when safe, keep receipts, and avoid permanent repairs until the carrier provides direction.

  3. Document what happened

Capture photos or video and record the date, time, location, damaged property, involved parties, and known facts.

  4. Report and save the claim number

Use the carrier’s approved channel promptly. Keep the claim number, adjuster details, receipts, uploads, and correspondence together.

Carrier Directory

Open the reporting route shown on your current policy.

Confirm the insurance company on your declarations page or ID card. An agency, program administrator, or brand name may differ from the carrier responsible for the claim.

Carrier websites and procedures can change. Confirm that the company name matches your current policy before submitting personal or claim information.

After Reporting

Know who owns each next step.

Your claim number is the clearest confirmation that the carrier has opened a claim.

Insurance carrier

Opens and decides the claim

Assigns the claim number and adjuster, investigates the loss, applies the policy, and communicates claim decisions and payments.

You

Preserve the record

Respond to the adjuster, keep documents and receipts, record conversations, and report newly discovered damage through the claim channel.

PIS agency

Helps you find the right route

We can help identify the carrier, locate policy information, explain general policy details, and help address communication confusion.

Important Claims Notice

A message to our agency does not open a claim.

Report the loss through the carrier’s approved channel unless our office explicitly confirms another process. Coverage and claim decisions are made by the insurance carrier under the terms and facts of the policy.
